In Your Space

The isolation and loneliness felt over the past year has made me feel small and distant. My mind feels far from my body. This movement score was inspired by a grounding exercise I've used in therapy to help tune in to myself and connect to what I'm feeling. I hope this score brings clarity, presence, and connection to whatever space you find yourself in.

THE SCORE

Begin by looking around at the space/room you are in. Use what you see/what is near you to define this area as "your" space for the duration of the score.

Rest your gaze on something in your space that is pleasant to look at.

—what feelings/thoughts come to your mind?

—what sensations come to your body?

—notice if/how your posture responds to what you see

—pay close attention to color, shape, texture

Think of positive associations you have with this object. Let these fill you up.

move while looking at your object
move while looking away
move in response to the feelings, memories, sensations that came up
move in response to the color, shape, texture

Move for as long as you like, then take a moment to thank your space and your object.

*Accessibility note: This score as written prioritizes sight to define a space, however it can be adapted to prioritize other senses. What do you hear near you? What can you touch? What do the sensations of your immediate surroundings stir up in you? Feel free to adapt in the way that best suits you.
