Five Minute Fold

“I devised this simple score to use as a daily practice for myself to stretch and explore my body, especially during a time when movement hasn’t been a personal priority. The time limit helps me to feel like I can commit to this practice daily, I can certainly find 5 minutes in my day to fold.” — Maddy

[ FIVE MINUTE FOLD ]

  • Set a timer for 5 minutes

  • FOLD until the timer goes off

  • If you don’t want to stop when the timer goes off, keep going for as long as you’d like

[ OPTIONAL PROMPTS ]

  • How many ways can your fold your body?

  • How many folds can you make at once?

  • Perhaps begin at one end of yourself and fold every joint until you reach the other end?

  • What ways does it feel good to fold? What parts? What is uncomfortable to fold?

  • Big folds and small folds...alternate, compare, etc.

  • Focus on folding the spine...do you think it folds?

  • Simply fold in half?

  • This was designed as a way to fold the body, but what else might you want to fold for 5 minutes? Paper? Laundry? Dough? Boxes? Books? Letters? Words? Etc, etc.. How many ways can you fold these things?
