Collective Sweat Detroit's visiting artist in residence, Dani Tirrell, will be joining us the week of April 15th!
Visiting from Seattle, Dani Tirrell is a Black, Queer, Gender Non-Conforming movement-based artist. Dani uses his/her name as his/her pronouns. Dani focuses a lot on expressing Dani’s identity as a femme being living on this planet. Currently Dani’s work focuses on the queer, gender non-conforming and black experience.
CSD will be hosting a work-in-progress showing to display the accumulation of Dani's practice during the residency on a piece entitled FagGod -
"In FagGod, I am exploring where the LGBTQIA+ community found sanctuary with the onset of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In this piece, FagGod will be centered on places of “worship” such as Discos/Bars, Bathhouses and Churches. FagGod also explores how we worship people (Gay Icons). I will research Gay icons of the 70’s and 80’s including Sylvester, Grace Jones, Bette Midler, David Bowie and Cher to name a few."
The showing is FREE and open to all. Donations to Collective Sweat Detroit will be accepted at the door.
